Having written more than a dozen bios, I want to give you a few recommendations:
1. It‘s always better to put your name in the handle. All these account names digital_marketing_pro and other color_master_146 do not carry any information.
Just imagine I wasn‘t sarahs.insta.secrets, but some kind of marketing_infobiz_smm. Just write your full name or combine your name with your niche.
2. Tell people about what you do in the name line: how you can be useful to them or what are you are selling. People will see this line everywhere, for example, when they look at who watched or liked their stories.
CREATE WEBSITES WITH WORDPRESS
SET UP TRENDS IN COLORISTRY
PAINT FENCES IN LONDON
3. Don’t try to display your regalia in your bio unless it‘s super cool.
Bad:
– A marketer with a university degree (there are millions of them)
Good:
– Coca-Cola Brand Marketer (there are very few of them)
4. Do not tag (@) your other accounts in your bio. That just takes all the traffic away from you. Let the projects live and warm up the audience on their own. No one prevents you from tagging them in stories OR in posts. There‘s no need to do that in your bio.
5. Focus on ONE service or product. This is always more efficient than trying to sell 5 different services in 150 characters.
It looks like this:
hairstylist
Copywriter
Cars seller
Mum of 3
DYI projects
And here‘s what you need to do (write ONE service):
Hair Colour Service of any complexity
Working with blonde hair
Fixing the mistakes of other hairdressers
6. If you‘re not an influencer, try not to show off too much and “be different”. There‘s no value in “flying on the wings of success” or “managing to do everything at once”.
Talk about your work specifically, but don‘t be too “unique” and it will work and bring in money.
It is the influencer‘s task to be different and to stand out from other influencers. The task of an expert is to earn money by selling services or products. These are different tasks and they need different bios.
7. Write about the benefits for the follower, not about how cool YOU are. On he whole, nobody cares about how many awards a designer has. It is much more important, that their WORK is quickly done and cool. Have a clear link to view your portfolio, prices and your terms & conditions. This is the real benefit. And I am really not interested in the award for the best layout of the newspaper in the Cotswolds.
Write in a way that is clear and useful, without showing-off or being mysterious.
