Instagram and its statistics can be discouraging, because social media is, first and foremost, numbers. Top instagrams have hundreds of thousands of followers and, as a rule, “tops” have a blue account confirmation icon. Each of their posts is gaining hundreds of comments, and live sessions simply tear up Instagram airtime.
These instagrammers are successful, but suppose you are successful too.
Followers and much more, of course, refers to indicators of success on Instagram, but these are far from all significant indicators. And if so, then what is success on Instagram?
How to measure success on Instagram? (Hint: It’s not about the army of followers)
1. Engagement rate
Engagement rate is an important success indicator on Instagram. But my idea is not how important engagement itself is. But to get engagement, which really matters.
What am I talking about? Sincere likes matter. And accounts that like everything, without engagement or follow – up mean nothing.
I would prefer to have a hundred followers who watch my lives on Instagram, instead of thousands of “dead souls” who skip them.
2. Who is following you (and not how many followers)
The important thing is not the number of followers, but who is following you. If you representing a business or a brand, then you would like to have followers who are REALLY interested in your “message” or who will buy your goods or services.
It’s easy to give up if your Instagram account has only two thousand followers, while two millions users are following another brand. But have you ever wondered who your followers are?
Look at the list of followers, look at their profiles. Most likely, you will find there ordinary people who live their own lives, post photos of their daily routine. You can also find among them profiles from your niche that like your content. If so, then everything is fine with you.
If you only have spam accounts that have never liked your photos, or other brands that followed you in the expectation that you will follow them back, then your Instagram can hardly be considered successful. Only followers, who care, take your content to heart and even save it to bookmarks. That is what matters.
3. The influence you have
Influencers have several millions of followers on Instagram, but this does not mean that the “leaders” at least somehow influence their life or make it better. You can have only twenty followers, but you are making changes in the life of each of them. This is more important than the number of followers, believe me.
Do not forget about the impact you have on people’s lives, because the reason they are with you is always in the first place. Concentrate on influencing the lives of those followers that you have, and by doing so, you will see that the number of them is growing.
Give people real values and a miracle will happen.
4. The quality of comments (and not their quantity)
Imagine that you decided to read the comments and you find: in six cases out of ten comments consist of one word or, worse, emoji. Suddenly, the fact that the post has ten comments no longer matters, because more than half of them are fake comments.
I know that you already understood my idea, but I will speak out until the end anyway. The number of comments is not as important as their quality. You can have four to five comments on each post, but what can it talk about?
If these are sincere comments, if a person really cares what he wants to say, then you won. Yes, ten comments look better, but what difference does it make, in general, if your post does not help anyone, does not motivate or inspire? This is the whole point – quality is more important.
5. How people interact with you outside of Instagram
The reason you started an Instagram profile is brand or blog promotion. You would like people to read your articles, watch your YouTube videos, or shop at your store. Yes, having an army of followers on Instagram is cool, but if they don’t do the actions you hoped for, then you’ll think: “And why, in general, did I create an account on Instagram?”
You give advice on self-development, or in the fashion industry, or publish photos of your products, but what if no one makes purchases as a result of your Instagram ads or is not going to delve into what you are doing? For followers, your value starts with Instagram; but you also need to show them that it continues outside of it.
In many ways, success on Instagram is determined by clicking on the link; for example, on your blog or store website.
Even if you have only five hundred followers, but a considerable part of them follow the link to watch a video or read an article, then you have achieved success.
And in order to be clear: no one doubts that the usual success indicators with getting into TOP Instagram are a great achievement. I just want to remind you that you, too, are successful in your own way. On the other hand, account confirmation and the desire to get a million of followers are also good motivation. But if you have one or two thousand followers now, then you are already successful – it’s just that your success is measured in a different way.
